Our Mission
The International Potluck exists to connect people through food and storytelling. It is a platform for people in groups to share stories through their own words and forms of expression. Food and potlucks are familiar and safe concepts for many. They can serve as a bridge to bring people together from a diverse background of cultures and experiences.
Inclusivity
All are welcome. This is a safe space for people from all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences to come together.
Curiosity
“Generally what is more important than getting watertight answers is learning to ask the right questions.” – Madeleine L’Engle. Through the questions, discussion, and opportunities to learn, our events inspire people to dig deeper and learn more.
Equity
We collaborate directly with community groups and people to shape the events. By working together collaboratively, we ensure every voice matters in the shaping of the event. We pay our speakers and food vendors to compensate them for their talents. We approach the events with humility and a sense that each event is “ours together” rather than “my event”.
How we do it
We host monthly events centered around timely and relevant themes. Partnering with community members, the events are tailored the topic to engage the audience and allow people to connect on a human level.
